Vogue Inspired Living Room Under $500

Living Room 500 3

This is the third living room design in a series of designs that are $500 or less. Everything shown in this design totaled $477. A Checklist with all of the links for where to buy and the prices is below.

The art is the inspiration for the design. The colors in the room all relate back to the art.

Vogue Artwork

The futon is the only way to stay within the $500 budget. This one has good ratings, and it’s super affordable at $130.

White Futon

The Chair ties back to the blue in the artwork.Blue Print Chair

The end tables are $8 each, and they are just the right height for the futon.

Living Room 500 2 end tables

The storage ottomans are $13 each and they double as a coffee table and as extra seating.

Storage Ottomans Black

The lamps come in a set for $80. I love the way that they reference back to the Moroccan style print on the chair.

Moroccan Lamp Set

The bookshelf is $27.

Oh, I almost forgot the pillows. They tie the colors of the artwork into the room. Pillows

These pieces should fit in the smallest of living rooms, but if your layout is tricky, double check the dimensions of the pieces as needed. If your living room is really large, you can always add additional pieces as your finances permit.

As usual, I chose pieces with the lowest price and a minimum of 4 out of 5 stars, but there are a couple that may not have any reviews yet. Some of the items will have taxes, all should have free shipping, or free ship to store.

I will check back on the links to make sure they haven’t gone bad. If you see a bad link before I do, please gently comment and I will fix it right away. If I notice that the price has changed, I won’t update it because I want you to know whether to wait for the item to go back on sale, or whether to buy it ASAP. Until next time.

Big hug,

$500 Living Room Design

Living Room 500 NH

This is my second in a series of living room designs on a $500 budget. It includes 16 pieces of furniture and art on that budget. The total for these items came in at $498.

In case you don’t already know, I design rooms using various budgets, and I provide a Checklist with all of the links to purchase each piece in the design so that when you see a design that you like, you can easily order all of the pieces online. You won’t have to spend hours searching, matching, sizing, all while trying to stay within your budget – I do all of the hard work for you.

I went masculine with this design. My first living room design on a $500 budget was a coastal theme. I’ll do a feminine design next. I’ve also done a dining room design for under $500, and a couple of bedrooms for under $1,700. That was as low as I could get for a king size bedroom design.

Let me start with the art. The first piece is a straight forward abstract design. The second piece that has the horizontal stripes is an 18×18 piece, and it will need to be cut down to 18″ x 12″ to fit in the frame that I’ve chosen. I found a set of 2 12″x18″ frames for $15. It would have blown the budget to get a second frame to fit the 18×18 size.

Living Room 500 2 Art
The futon comes highly rated, and it’s perfect for overnight guests. It’s gray BTW.

The slipper chair goes perfectly with the blues in the room and it’s only $90.

The lamps come in several colors, but the gray matches the room the best out of all the color choices.

The coffee table is that same espresso tone as the TV stand and the ladder shelf.

The end tables are a steal at $8 each. They are a perfect height for the futon too.

Living Room 500 2 TV StandThe Ladder Shelf is really affordable at $39. I remember when you couldn’t find these for less than $100

Living Room 500 2 Ladder Bookshelf

The pillows are a nice way to tie the colors in the art into the rest of the room.

Living Room 500 2 pillows

These pieces should fit in the smallest of living rooms, but always measure to make sure. If your living room is really large, you can always add additional pieces as your finances permit.

Each piece has a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. There will be taxes on a few of these pieces, and each piece has either free shipping, or free ship to your local store.

The prices will change, but I leave them as I found them even if I notice they’ve gone up or down so that you will know whether to wait for a sale or buy a piece ASAP.

I will check the links from time to time to make sure they don’t go bad, but if you see a bad link before I do, please gently let me know in the comments and I will fix it right away. Until next time.

French Country Living Room Designs

French Living Room 2 of 3

French Living Room 3 of 3

December 24, 2017 Hello, thank you for checking out my latest design(s). My last post was a French Country Dining Room, and I knew that I needed to do a living room to match. All of the pieces in the designs include links for where to buy and their pricing down below.

I chose to create 3 different designs with pieces in a variety of price ranges, and sizing. Big room, little room, big budget, little budget, you should be able to find what you are looking for. You can also mix and match between the designs to get the look that you like best.

The first design has muted green and neutral tones.

French Living Room 1 of 3

The second design below has bright pink tones with black to balance the femininity.

French Living Room 2 of 3

The third design has blue tones. This is a nice balance to the femininity of French Country as well.

French Living Room 3 of 3

The artwork is all from Etsy. Botanical art is classic French Country. Just a heads up, the set of 12 art cream and green botanical images has 6 images that were used for the dining room design in my last post.

french country art

The sofa options are in a variety of sizes to fit any size room. Chesterfield designs are very popular now. They’ve always been a classic that never goes out of style, and they were very expensive until their popularity created a vortex of affordable knock offs. I have a question. Do you think that when Mitch and Cam on Modern Family bought a Chesterfield sofa is what started the mainstream popularity? Hmm.

french country sofas

The rugs were chosen to tie all of the colors together. Don’t use them if you have carpet floors, which most people have by the way. I seems like everyone has wood floors, but not really. Anyway, an area rug will ripple up near furniture legs if it is laid over carpet. I know this because this is my life at the moment. I love my area rug, but I have to remove all of the furniture on it every now and then so the ripples flatten out.

area rugs

I wanted to talk about the paint swatches that are shown in each design. I create those colors just by pulling a color from some of the pieces in the room. Most of the time when I pull a color it is too dark for a wall color and I have to lighten the hue.  So if you are going to paint your walls, always go lighter than you think. You also want to make sure the colors are muted, not bright. The dark shades are good for small pieces.  french country paint colors

I chose a variety of coffee tables. If you look closely at the designs, you’ll see how the rectangular shaped wood coffee table is matched with the sofa to fit in a small space. The square shaped ottoman is matched with the sectional because it fits perfectly with it’s shape. The tufted top vintage storage boxes fit well with the couch with chaise sectional. I personally prefer ottomans as coffee tables, because they are soft and comfortable to put your feet up on.

french coffee tables

Sidenote: 1/8/2018 I just found these ottomans. They are similar to the the set of ottomans above, and they are much more affordable. I’ve added them to the Checklist.

lower priced ottoman

I’m going to divert from the main story here for a moment to share some thoughts. Most people play it safe when it comes to furnishing their home. Dark leather or faux leather sofa, brown, black, and beige. It hurts me every time I walk into a home and see the same old, same old. I get that most people are on a budget, and/or they have kids and pets and they need the durability of  faux leather. I have old bed sheets that I keep on my sofa and chairs, that I take off when company comes over, or when I feel like living on the edge. That’s me, I’m a risk taker. But that’s how I keep my furniture nice. Scotchguard Fabric Protector is good too. I think it’s worth the trouble to have furniture that I love.

Now, the end tables. I’m not going to lie, they’re unusual. I wanted to take you out of the typical matchy, matchy stuff though. I love unique pieces that are also functional. I did throw in one end table that matches with the black wood coffee table though.

french end tables

The accent chairs were all chosen to tie the colors together in each design.

french accent chairs

I’ve added settees as well in case your space has the room for them. Most of the French style settees had light colored wood, and it was hard to find ones with dark wood details to go with the rest of the wood details.

french settees

Okay, let me show you the pillows. I’m partial to lumbar pillows, can you tell? Again, these were chosen based on their color, and how well they tie the colors together from the other elements in the room.

french pillows

The mirrors that I chose all have French style to them. The two that are turned horizontal can be turned vertical if it fits better in the room that way.

french mirrors

Wall panels are classic French Country.

french country wall panels

Here are the medallions that I chose for wall decor. Fun Fact: You could use these in a Tuscan design too.

Wall Shelves are a nice way to display pictures. Rather than putting pictures on a table, you can put them up out of the way where they are less likely to be broken. Unless you have a cat, in which case you just have to accept that your pictures will get broken at some point.

french wall shelves

Wall sconces are a really nice way to create romantic ambiance in a room. Just don’t burn the house down. Battery operated faux candles are good.

french wall sconces

I found this TV cover by accident, and it’s definitely one of my favorite pieces. I love that you can cover the giant black hole that a turned off TV creates. It’s a little pricey, and I’m not sure I like paying as much for the cover as I paid for the TV. If you are handy, you could make your own.

TV cover

The curtains are linen look fabric. I chose affordable curtains. The grommet rod openings aren’t French Country, but the linen/burlap is, and I chose them to bring a little masculine into an otherwise feminine space.

french country curtains

Here are the wine cabinets and credenzas. I’m not crazy about wine storage, but there is something about that wine cage. Maybe it’s too Tuscany for French Country, but you might be able to get away with it.  I love the bow on the mirrored wine cabinet also. It really is all about the little details. The uniqueness of a space is what makes it truly beautiful in my opinion.

french cabinets

Table Lamps are imperative to any interior design. I personally prefer the flexibility of a 3-way lamp. (That sounded naughty) They can be a bit tedious to turn on and off though. (That sounded naughty too) I recently discovered that if you buy a bulb that isn’t the right wattage for a 3-way lamp, it will only have one light setting, so check wattage limits on the lamp and the bulb.

table lamps

Here are the accessories. You can put flowers in the pitcher. The bust and the glass decanters are my favorites. The bust has a similar feel to having a vintage globe in my opinion.

French Accessories 3

Here are the trays that I’ve chosen for the designs. These have a lot of function.  They are meant to go on top of the ottomans that double as coffee tables to create a flat service for drinks and such. They can also be used when you entertain.

serving trays

I almost forgot the topiaries! Buying these can be tricky. Some can look really plastic and fake so keep that in mind. The big one on the right has LED lights. I stumbled across it, and I included it because it’s a great price for how big it is.

french topiaries

I also wanted to include some wreaths. I’ve seen these many times in French Country designs, and they are typically hung in front of a mirror from a ribbon. I like the look, but I’m torn about whether to cover a mirror. I suppose if you found a weathered mirror that you can’t really see into anymore, it would be okay.

French wreaths

As usual, I will update the links if they go bad. If you happen to find one before I do, please gently let me know in the comments. The pricing may vary because several pieces were on sale. I’ve seen them go up and down in just the time that it takes me to pull the design together and then create the Checklist.

Most items free shipping, but some may have taxes. Make sure that you sign up for email updates in the links when it offers a discount so you can save some money. I know it’s a habit for me to close those pop ups, so I wanted to remind you.

Make sure that you measure your space, and give 24-36 inches for walking around room. Each piece will have dimensions. Occasionally, I find a piece without measurements. I try not to use those if I don’t have to, and I also try to use pieces with 4 or more stars out of 5 stars. There are some pieces that haven’t been rated yet. I would recommend looking into return policies just in case pieces don’t fit well together. I try to make sure the scale of everything is right, but you don’t really know for sure into it’s in the space. I hope this helps make your designing easier.

Big hug,

P.S. 1/8/2018 I just checked all of the links to make sure that they are still valid, and I noticed that a few of the prices went down, but a few more went up. I’ve left the prices as is so you would know whether you should wait for a something to go back on sale, or whether you should buy it because it’s at a lower price. When I choose the pieces, I always search for the best price, so if you notice it’s less than what I listed it at, it’s a good deal.

Green Envy Living Room For Under $3,500

Green Living Room

Hi there, Thank you for stopping by.

I’ve always loved the color green. Especially now that I live in the desert, I need green. This design is for all the green lovers out there. There is a Checklist below with pricing and all of the links to buy each piece shown.

Hey, that gold bowl looking thing is actually the coffee table. Here is a better reference photo of it next to a couch. There’s something about it that I like. It’s also on sale for $300, from $499. I don’t know how long the sale will last, so let me add another option…

drum coffee table

Here is another coffee table option just in case the original option above is no longer on sale. The one below is $330, but it has storage inside. Let me tell you,  these tables are expensive. I got lucky when I spotted the original. There are some similar tables for $4,000.

Drum Table $330 2

Okay, one more table option. Not as big, not as high, not as shapely, but it’s $124.
Gold Coffee Table $130

I see the walls for this room as white, because the look that I was going for was sunny and bright. If you wanted to go more moody and dark, you could paint the walls a medium to dark gray, and switch the gold pieces for dark brown wood pieces and black curtains. The lamps could stay, the accent chairs could be switched with a dark gray or black. I’m just telling you this in case you already have some dark wood furniture pieces, you could work them in. I’ll create an actual design like the one I am describing soon.

Oh! I almost forgot! Let me tell you about the rug. I have this rug. I love the rug. It’s soft and plush. It’s perfect for this color scheme because it had gold in it. You can’t see it until it’s in the light. It will only work if you have tile, wood, or vinyl flooring. You can’t put it over carpet, like I did. It gets warp ripples from people walking across it, shifting the carpet, and because furniture anchors it in certain places – warp ripples. I couldn’t find anything online about how to prevent this from happening.

wood print rug

I love the accent chairs. Funny thing is they weren’t my first choice. Long story, doesn’t matter, these are better than the other ones.

cream velvet chair

I can’t think of much else to say about this design except that I really, really like everything about it. Just the thought of having to water and nurture those plants makes me happy. Important Tip: A few years back, I killed a couple of plants, (completely involuntarily of course) and I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. Then a friend with a glorious 7 foot plant in her home helped me figure it out. She waters her plant once a week. Once a week?! In the desert?! Turns out I was over watering because I thought they needed it being in the desert and all. My plants have done wonderfully ever since I’ve instituted a once a week watering policy for my indoor plants. I whisper sweet nothings to them too. I like to think that they enjoy it.

As always, the pricing for each item may change. Some of the items were on sale when I put this design together. Most of the items have free shipping, and if the price I listed is more than the item actually costs, it’s because I saw taxes and/or shipping charges and I added them in. I will check the links to make sure that they don’t become invalid and update them if they do. If you find a bad link before I do, please gently comment and let me know. P.S. Part of the reason I started doing this was to make it easier for people to recreate design inspiration. I found countless bad links when trying to decorate my own home using inspiration that I found online. I love Pinterest, but it’s the worst for dead end links.

Until next time.

Big hug,

Coastal Living Room $500 Budget

Coastal Living Room $500 2

This is my very first try at putting together a living room on a $500 budget, and I was able to get 16 pieces of furniture and art in that budget.

For those of you who don’t know, I design rooms using various budgets, and I provide a Checklist with all of the links to purchase each piece in the design so that when you see a design that you like, you can easily order all of the pieces online. You won’t have to spend hours searching, matching, sizing, all while trying to stay within your budget – I do all of the hard work for you.

This design is for someone who is on a really tight budget. I remember what it was like to want to have a nice apartment, but not have a lot of money to decorate it. So, this is my first crack at it. The Coastal theme is really popular, but you can easily switch the artwork around and create a whole other look. I’ll play around with it and create different versions future.

Let me give you the details about this design. The futon is great because you can have overnight guests if you need to, or if you live in an studio apartment, you’ve got your living room/bedroom all set.

The art shown are posters, and let me just say that when I went looking for affordable ocean art – the options were endless, so if you don’t like the vintage style of the art shown, you can search for other types of ocean art, or even other types of art altogether in the art link provided in the Checklist below.

I found two black frames to fit the posters for $13. One important thing that I wanted to mention about the frames that I found are small for one of these art prints. The prints are 12″x18″ and 13″x19″. I chose to go with the 12″x18″ frame size. You can fold or trim down the larger piece of art 1/2 inch on each side to fit.

Coastal Living Room Art

The slipper chair was a steal at $74. I’ve seen the price fluctuate up to $90, and this is a second source after the price went from $80 to $90 with the first source.

Slipper Chair

1/22/2018 Update…As I was checking all of the links to make sure they were still valid, I noticed that the chair above is a lot more expensive. I’ve left it’s link in the Checklist below, but I’ve added another chair at a lower price. It’s from Ebay, and there aren’t any reviews showing for the chair, which always makes me nervous, but they accept returns within 30 days. There are very detailed photos of the chair though.

Coastal Chair

The lamps are $30 a piece, and that includes the shade. They also come in a few other colors.

The end tables are $8 each. This style table has been around for at least 40 years, and I think the price was $8 40 years ago too. These tables aren’t very tall as far as end tables go, but neither is the futon, so it work out nicely.

End Tables

The ladder shelf is great for displaying little decor items and or some small plants. You can put it by the front door as a place to set your keys.

Ladder Shelf

The throw pillows are really nice for $15 for the pair. I’ve bought these before and I really like them. There are several color options, so if navy blue isn’t your thing, you can go with another color.
Coastal Pillows

The storage ottomans double as a coffee table. I initially found them for $25 each, and then when I was checking the links to make sure they were still valid, I found them for $17 each from another source, so Yay! They’re a great place to hide your mess when company suddenly stops by. Shhh, it’ll be our little secret.

Storage Ottomans

The TV Stand is just $20! It had only 1 review when I wrote this, but it was 5 stars. Fingers crossed, it will be wonderful.

TV Stand

These pieces should fit in the smallest of living rooms, but if your layout is tricky, double check the dimensions of the pieces as needed. If your living room is really large, you can always add additional pieces as your finances permit.

I chose everything carefully based on price and reviews. I try to make sure that there are a minimum of 4 out of 5 star reviews for each item, but sometimes there aren’t any reviews and I take the chance. Every piece should have free shipping, or free ship to your local store options, and some will have taxes. The total was $446 for all of the pieces, so there is room for taxes.

I will check back to make sure that the links don’t go bad. If you happen to notice one before I do, please gently comment to let me know and I’ll fix it straight away. The prices will change, but I am going to leave the prices as is so you know whether to wait for it to go back on sale, or whether to by it ASAP because it’s price is lower than I quoted.

I hope that this helps makes furnishing your place a little easier. Until next time.

Big hug,
